Jets' Wilson off to good start with Rodgers: 'It's been really special'

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson is focusing on learning as much as he can this offseason from Aaron Rodgers and other veterans on the roster.

“It’s been really special,” Wilson told Rich Cimini of ESPN. “I try to be as much of a sponge as I can be and make sure I’m learning and spending time with Randall (Cobb) and Allen (Lazard).”

The Jets were proactive this offseason, surrounding Rodgers with familiar faces. They signed Lazard to a four-year, $44-million deal and inked Cobb to a one-year contract.

Wilson is entering his second season in the league after a phenomenal rookie campaign. He hauled in 1,103 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 83 catches. Wilson is expected to take another step forward in his sophomore year and be Rodgers’ go-to target.

The 22-year-old Wilson believes learning from guys like Lazard and Cobb will help him transition to catching passes from the four-time MVP.

“People that have been around Aaron, so that I can make sure I’m picking up all the nuances of the offense and trying to put myself to where I’m feeling 100 percent comfortable out on the field. But it’s been really fun, man, and obviously, he can deal, and it’s a lot that comes with it though. It’s fun to play, man.”

Rodgers failed to make the playoffs last season for the first time since 2018 but didn’t have a wideout on the roster with Wilson’s talent. He threw for 3,695 yards with 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
