Dolphins' McDaniel downplays Taylor link: Even my daughter can tweet reports

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel downplayed recent reports about his team’s interest in trading for disgruntled Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor.

“Here’s the thing with reports,” McDaniel said, according to Adam Beasley of Pro Football Network. “First of all, I think my 2.5-year-old daughter just tweeted a report. … She said that every player in the National Football League is coming to the Dolphins.”

“I’ve said this before: I’m not going to speak about other players,” McDaniel added. “And how many times do I have to explain that (general manager) Chris Grier’s job is to work? He works at it a lot. … There’s been a consistent pattern where we’ve talked about all sorts of players, so reports, whatever, it seems like the noise is around the business.”

The Colts recently gave Taylor permission to seek a trade. The former All-Pro running back is seeking a new contract ahead of the final year of his rookie deal. Six teams reportedly reached out to the Colts, who are seeking a first-round pick or multiple second-rounders.

Taylor isn’t the only high-profile running back who’s been linked to the Dolphins. Miami offered a contract to Dalvin Cook before he signed with the New York Jets and reportedly inquired about the availability of Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs. The Raiders apparently aren’t interested in moving Jacobs.

The Dolphins’ running back depth chart features Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, and rookie De’Von Achane, among others. Achane, Miami’s third-round pick this year, is week-to-week after suffering a shoulder injury during a preseason game against the Houston Texans.

Mostert led Miami with 891 rushing yards (4.9 per carry) and three touchdowns on the ground in 2022.
